GOTS certified material
Mama Tierra uses sustainable materials such as GOTS certified cotton yarn from Peru. Since most indigenous textiles are made from plastic based yarns, the production of the Mama Tierra accessories thus not only avoids using fossil-fuel by-products, but also contributes to a reduction in plastic waste in the La Guajira region.

Design inspired by popular believes
This design is based on the South American popular belief of the “Evil Eye”. In Spanish, “Mal de Ojo” denotes the idea that disapproving looks can cause harm to people, damage to their possessions or even death. The eye on the case serves as an amulet, to counteract people’s envy and evil glances.

Made in Venezuela
With your order, you are helping the Wayuu indigenous people in Venezuela to secure an income. Each design reflects elements of Mother Nature such as plants, animals, the sun and the stars. The production of the tapestry is a good source of income for the Wayuu in Venezuela. Especially because the indigenous people earn in Colombian pesos. Thereby they escape the high inflation rate in Venezuela.

Empowering indigenous women
Mama Tierra's vision is to enable indigenous women to lead self-determined and financially independent lives. We do this by distributing the accessories produced by Wayuu Indians in their homeland under fair conditions.
