Crocheted shopper with vegan leather handles
This bag was lovingly handmade by indigenour women in Colombia. Their creativity, expertise and learning abilities are reflected in the quality of their handicrafts. A high-quality bag is characterized by a tight weave and is created using three techniques: vertical weaving, "atulush" knotting and crocheting. With this project, Mama Tierra offers financial independence to indigenous women in La Guajira, an area between Colombia and Venezuela. The handles are made out made of ananas processed into eco-leather, whose stable fibres are an equivalent substitute for animal leather.
Design by Dr. Lourdes Grollimund
Dr. Lourdes Grollimund, the president of Mama Tierra, designed this piece. Lourdes researches western trends, seasonal color styles and motifs in a benchmarking analysis. This results in irresistible, high quality accessories.
Empowering indigenous women
Mama Tierra's vision is to enable indigenous women to lead self-determined and financially independent lives. We do this by distributing the accessories produced by Wayuu Indians in their homeland under fair conditions.
