Crochet!
Indigenous women in Colombia have crocheted this resistant Etui lovingly stitch by stitch. Here the indigenous people themselves are the designers! Their designs are based on natural elements like river currents, animal tracks or star constellations. The quality of the handicraft is a sign of their intelligence, skill and learning ability.
Swiss Design
Dr. Lourdes Grollimund designed this piece. Lourdes researches the western tendencies, seasonal color styles and motifs in a benchmarking analysis. This results in irresistible, high quality accessories. Lourdes drew inspiration from the vast flora and fauna of the Guajira desert to conceive this design. Colombia and Venezuela are megadiverse countries. Colombia ranks second after Indonesia in having the highest National Biodiversity Index worldwide. As Venezuela, Colombia contains 10% of the world’s biodiversity.
Empowering indigenous women
Mama Tierra offers indigenous women existence-saving wages and financial independence. The focus is on women because they ensure the well-being of the family, ensuring its income and educating the children. The woman is the strongest link in many indigenous societies, but this is particularly true in the Wayuu culture, as they have a matrilineal kinship structure.
Material: Polyacrylic yarn 100% produced by the factory Miratex in Colombia. Azo dye-free, Iso-Standard 9001: 2000.
