Design inspired in popular believes
This motive refers to the South American popular belief and the associated damage spell "evil eye". In Spanish, "Mal de Ojo" refers to the idea that disapproving glances can cause harm, even death, to people, or damage to their property. The eye should serve as an amulet especially against envy.
Design by Dr. Lourdes Grollimund
This pattern was created by Lourdes Grollimund. As president of Mama Tierra, Lourdes intensively works on the motifs and colour combinations of the Mama Tierra designs. For this purpose, she researches current trends, seasonal colour styles and motifs. The results are irresistible, high-quality accessories.
Made in Venezuela
In the 1970s, the Venezuelan tapestry was very popular. From the Fira de Barcelona to the MoMa Museum in New York, the Wayuu crafts could be admired in museums all over the world. The indigenous peoples wind the yarn on a so-called weaver's shuttle and push the thread through the fabric. This time-consuming technique went out of fashion and many artisans could not sell their art anymore. Mama Tierra has worked together with the artisans in order to create beautiful clutches with the same technique of the antique wall tapestries. The new products undoubtedly meet the current Zeitgeist.
