Crochet!
Using the crochet technique, indigenous women in Colombia have lovingly handcrafted this resistant clutch stitch by stitch. The indigenous people themselves are the designers! Their designs are based on natural elements like river currents, animal tracks or star constellations. The quality of the handicraft is a sign of their intelligence, skill and learning ability.
Inspired by indigenous culture
The Wayuu people are organized into clans based on matrilineal consanguineal kinship. Totemic animals emblematically represent some of the Uliana clans. Wayuu indigenous people see cats as the common ancestor of all clan members. In some Uliana clans, cats represent this ancestor.
Empowering women
Mama Tierra offers pre-payments and working material to the indigenous women, thereby strengthening their financial independence. The focus is on women because they ensure the well-being of the family, ensuring its income and educating the children.
Material: 100% Polyacrylic yarn produced by the factory Miratex in Colombia. Azo dye-free, Iso-Standard 9001: 2000.
