Ply-splitting technique
The Wayuu call this band “Kutpera”. Traditionally, it is used as an element in the donkey saddle. Donkeys are important farm animals for the Wayuu indigenous people. The Wayuu honour their animals by decorating them with such colourful bands. Usually the men make the straps for the donkeys. The Wayuu also use the kutpera as a very resistant type of shoulder strap for their traditional bags.
Piñatex - brown strap
These accessories are made of pineapple leaves processed into eco-leather. The pineapple’s stable leaf fibers surprisingly offer an equivalent substitute for animal leather.
Leather - pink strap
The natural leather used for the strap is made from rest pieces.
