Invitation: 11 Years of Mama Tierra: An Evening of Art, Stories & Purpose

Join us on Thursday, 5 November 2026, at Casa Tauta in Zürich for a special evening celebrating eleven years of craftsmanship, cultural heritage, meaningful collaborations and commitment to Indigenous communities.

Since its founding in 2015, Mama Tierra has grown from an initiative creating dignified employment opportunities for Indigenous women into a non-profit organisation supporting artisans and their families through craftsmanship, education, food security, access to water, healthcare and cultural preservation.

Eleven years later, there is much to celebrate, many stories to share and important work ahead.

Together with Casa Tauta, we invite friends, collaborators, supporters and everyone interested in discovering Mama Tierra to join us for an evening of art, literature, craftsmanship and Colombian flavours.

Eleven years of stories, challenges and achievements

Throughout the evening, we will look back at Mama Tierra’s journey: from our first collections and relationships with Wayuu artisans to collaborations with internationally recognised cultural institutions.

Our work has taken us to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, where we created an exclusive collection inspired by Sunflowers and Irises, and more recently to another renown museum in Zürich. We look forward to sharing news of our latest museum collaborations.

These milestones demonstrate the extraordinary possibilities that emerge when traditional Indigenous craftsmanship meets contemporary design and artistic expression.

But Mama Tierra’s journey has always been about more than the products we create. Behind every piece are skilled artisans, their families, their stories and their aspirations.

Guests will have the opportunity to discover personal interviews and messages from the artisans themselves, offering a glimpse into the people and communities at the heart of our work.

Celebrating literature, art and creative collaboration

Literature and visual art will have a special place in our anniversary celebration.

We will present our German-language Wayuu storybook, Der Esel und die Kaktusfeige, published with the support of ici.gemeinsam hier, and share a reading from the book. This project is part of our commitment to preserving and sharing Indigenous cultural heritage across generations and cultures.

We will also show our collaboration with artist Anna Peter-Breton, who generously gifted Mama Tierra two of her original watercolours to be interpreted as tapestry clutches. These artworks have been translated into intricate textile pieces by our artisans, bringing painting and traditional craftsmanship together in a new form. Guests will have the opportunity to discover the resulting clutches alongside the artist’s book, which features two of the three watercolours.

Another highlight will be the presentation of our newest collection, developed in collaboration with Swiss designer Patrizia Stalder. We will share the inspiration behind the designs and explain why their message is especially relevant today.

Throughout the evening, guests will be able to discover Mama Tierra’s collections and purchase handcrafted pieces.

A shared commitment: Mama Tierra & Casa Tauta

Choosing Casa Tauta as the setting for our eleventh anniversary celebration was no coincidence.

Like Mama Tierra, Casa Tauta is a woman-led brand and shop that values Colombian craftsmanship and works with artisans to bring their creations to a wider audience.

Mama Tierra and Casa Tauta have collaborated on previous occasions, united by a shared appreciation for handmade products, cultural heritage and the people who keep traditional skills alive.

Celebrating our anniversary at Casa Tauta is therefore particularly meaningful. It is an opportunity to recognise not only Mama Tierra’s journey, but also the importance of collaboration, mutual support and the connections we build along the way.

Looking ahead: Our 2027 Essential Support Fund

An anniversary is not only an opportunity to look back. It is also a moment to consider what comes next.

While Mama Tierra creates dignified income opportunities through the sale of handcrafted products, the needs of the artisans and their families extend far beyond employment.

Prolonged droughts, floods, rising food prices and unexpected medical expenses continue to place enormous pressure on families in La Guajira.

Over the years, Mama Tierra has responded by providing food assistance, water deliveries, school supplies and essential medical support. Much of this assistance has depended on the funds available at any given moment.

We want to change that.

During our anniversary celebration, we will launch the Mama Tierra 2027 Essential Support Fund, with a fundraising goal of CHF 15,000.

Our aim is to establish dedicated resources for essential assistance throughout 2027, allowing us to respond to families’ needs even during periods when product sales are low.

Because our commitment to the artisans and their families does not end with the next sale.

We warmly invite our guests to learn more about this initiative and become part of Mama Tierra’s next chapter.

Celebrate with us at Casa Tauta

Casa Tauta will provide a welcoming setting for an evening of conversations, discoveries and Colombian culture.

Mama Tierra will offer Prosecco while supplies last, and guests will be able to purchase arepas and drinks from Casa Tauta.

Whether you have followed Mama Tierra for years or are discovering our work for the first time, we would be delighted to celebrate this milestone with you.
